Ash is extremely suspicious and annoyed by his presence, staying fiercely loyal to her father’s memory and resistant to this newcomers’ slick charm. Is the bile in her belly just jealousy, a rising resentment, or is Nick truly the cad she imagines he is? She is determined to dig up his past and find out.
