If you are itching for an island vacation, but you are apprehensive about travel outside the protection of the United States, I invite you to consider a trip to the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Many of you have read my posts about Kiteboarding and William’s Wish giving many details of a week-long visit to St. Croix that I recently enjoyed. I wanted to give you a closer look at what this island getaway has to offer…

Water sports—There are many choices for adventurous water lovers. Whether you like to snorkel, scuba dive, Kiteboard, surf, kayak, or simply take a swim in the cool salty blue, St. Croix has it all!

But first, for land lovers…

Accommodations—There is a variety of places to stay around the island. If you don’t want to stay in a centrally located private residence like William’s Wish (check out my review here) there are several hotels and other types of rentals, including boats. My entire stay was at William’s Wish, so I recommend doing a little research on trip advisor or other review sites if you want to explore other options.

Shopping—I don’t particularly care for shopping, but if that is your thing, St. Croix does not disappoint. There are many shops with gorgeous and often duty-free merchandise available for purchase.

Fine dining—A foodie’s delight! So many options, but my all-around favorite was NO BONES, a five-star restaurant located near the lovely house where I stayed. You can see several other restaurant reviews in the post I made about William’s Wish. The only restaurant that we visited that I would not make a return trip to was the Avocado Pitt, the food and the service there left something to be desired and neither were worth the price. I have seen top notch reviews elsewhere, so perhaps it was an isolated event. I just want to be a good consumer advocate by sharing my honest personal experiences.

Relaxation—With public access to beaches all around, there are plenty of places to sunbathe, swim, and snooze near the water. If you crave a bit more, why not indulge in soothing meditative practices or some restorative body work with various yoga classes available along with every spa service imaginable—just a click or phone call away.

Now, for the water lovers…

Snorkeling—grab your mask and fins and jump right in or book a tour to be escorted to the best underwater exploration trails around the island.

Scuba Diving—There are several dive shops to choose from and visit the most popular dive sites in St. Croix which are: Cane Bay, Cane Bay Wall, Twin Palms, pavilions, North Star, see mount, Davis Bay, Lavallee, Annaly Bay, Captain Morgan, Ham’s Bluff, Rust OP Twist, The Wrecks at Butler Bay, Gentle Winds, Sunset Reef, Alien Nation, Salt River, and the Frederiksted Pier.

You don’t want to miss a chance to check out these Caribbean waters teeming with tropical fish and aquatic life, beautiful living coral gardens filled with hard and soft corals of every type—up-close and in vivid color. Be sure to let your crew know about your preferences and skill level so that they can plan excursions tailored for the best dives of your life!

Paddle and Kiteboarding—The island has several options for classes and rentals, but, there’s only one for me—Bill Kraft is an exceptional teacher that lives up to his stellar reputation. If you are interested in SUP, surfing, or Kiteboarding, shoot Bill an email—he will not disappoint. Contact – [email protected]

Jeramie Vaine was the kind soul who contributed the beautiful title picture for this blog post. He is a new and welcomed addition to Bill’s staff. Check out his adventures on Facebook- Here

Tours—With both indoor, outdoor, land, and sea options you can find adventures for all your family members. Learn about rum at local distilleries, go for a hike in a rainforest, take a tour of historic sites, book a cruise to Buck Island, go charter fishing, ride horseback, or visit the marine park and learn about the local ecology.

Kayaking—You can float around in a regular kayak, but why when you can rent yourself a clear one and see every beautiful thing that surrounds you—find out more—Here

If all of this wasn’t enough excitement to look forward to…did I mention there is hang gliding available too! I want to book a flight to St. Croix right now, don’t you?
