What qualifies a person as family? Can blood be any more binding than love? This novel chronicles the contrasting paths of two friends who originally bonded over being motherless in the small community of Honeysuckle, Louisiana. This is richly textured fiction that weaves a vivid tapestry of what it must have been like for disadvantaged young women growing up in the Jim Crow era of the American South.

I recommend this read to fans of layered stories of fierce struggle, friendship, love, and the contemplation of various connections we may form throughout our lives.

I thank NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of Kin for my unbiased evaluation.  4 stars
