I love Gothic stories that feature wildly spirited females, and there’s extra intrigue to one in which her spirit is lured by an unexpected entity. I think this author has done an imaginative job of bringing this darkly atmospheric tale to life. Deeming Charlotte a menace, her mother often confines her to a small space to keep that willful energy contained. What would happen if Charlotte were somehow set loose and no longer able to be restricted or imprisoned?

I highly recommend this book to fans of deliciously witchy Gothic tales!

My only real complaint with this particular story is the overuse of utterly in the first half…but in circumspect, we could use this opportunity for a fun drinking game during a book club reading.

I thank NetGalley for an advanced copy of The Temptation of Charlotte North for my unbiased evaluation. 4.5 stars
